Dance Phrases

The videos posted are of dance phrases learnt in lessons. The dancers are Shannon O'Dowd (me!), Julia McCaughley and Rebecca Curtis. We practised them in our own time focusing on the elongating of the spine, a floating skull and general placement of the body. By filming ourselves we were able to provide ourselves with another form of feedback. I particularly found that I hold a lot of tension in the neck which I need to learn to release. Also I found the low level phrase quite difficult when I needed to take my weight on to my left arm due to the problems with my arm and shoulder blade. However, from the frequent rigour of dance and continuous practise of the phrase it has become easier for me.

SO1

This is my first video of me experimenting with movement for my solo. It's only a short clip and I wasn't very well so this may have effected some performance. The overall movement followed my score and stimuli and I particularly liked the balance. However, the crawl out wasn't extended enough and I should have lenghtened it. Also I feel I could have experimented more when in the balance as I only experimented with my right leg and I didn't tryto move any of my other limbs.

Solo

I have been working on a solo. It's made up of structured improvisation rather than set work. It is choreographed around the lyrics of the song; Colours of the Wind. Instead of using all of the lyrics I highlighted various phrases in the song that stood out to me and looked at them in depth. From here I created several scores each developing on my original stimulus with the help of feedback. From these scores I began to experiment and create movement. I will keep the blog updated with clips of movement and inspirations and thouhts that may occur from thus.
